UCC Commends MTN Uganda and Afro Mobile Partnership at Launch of MTN TV

07 August 2026 – The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has welcomed the launch of MTN TV by Afro Mobile, describing it as an important milestone in Uganda’s digital communications landscape and a reflection of the growing demand for innovative, locally relevant digital content.

Representing the Executive Director at the launch, UCC Director for Corporate Affairs, Mr. Fred Otunnu, congratulated MTN Uganda and Afro Mobile on the partnership, noting that the platform demonstrates the convergence of digital media, communications and financial technologies to expand consumer choice and create new opportunities for Ugandan content creators and the creative economy.

He reaffirmed that innovations which enhance access to digital content support Uganda’s digital transformation agenda by promoting economic growth, creativity and entrepreneurship. He also emphasized the importance of responsible innovation, urging industry players to uphold consumer protection, safeguard user privacy, respect intellectual property rights and comply with Uganda’s regulatory framework.

Mr. Otunnu reiterated UCC’s commitment to maintaining an enabling regulatory environment that promotes innovation, fair competition, investment and quality of service, while working with industry stakeholders to advance a more inclusive and dynamic digital economy.
