DISSEMINATION WORKSHOP FOR THE STUDY OF THE ACCESS AND USAGE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTS) BY PEOPLE WITH DISABILITILES
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is a corporate body established under Section 4 of the Uganda Communications Act 2013 to regulate communication services in Uganda, including telecommunications, radio, television, broadcasting and postal and courier services. In performing its functions, UCC strives to ensure ubiquitous access and usage of communications services in Uganda.
Section 5 (1) of the Uganda Communications Act 2013, mandates Uganda Communications Commission “To promote research into the development and use of new communications techniques and technologies, including those which promote accessibility of persons with disability (PWDs) and other members of society to communications services”.
In exercise of this mandate, UCC in 2018 commissioned a baseline study on access and usage of ICTs by PWDs in Uganda. Findings of this study are expected to inform the development of the relevant policies, regulations, strategies and initiatives to promote inclusive access and usage of ICTs in Uganda. A stakeholder validation workshop of the study shall further be held on 29th January 2019 at the UCC Conference Hall starting at 09:00 am.
